What Is SEO?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is the practice of optimizing a website so that it ranks higher in search engine results pages (SERPs) when people search for keywords related to the website’s content. The aim of SEO is to increase visibility, drive traffic, and ultimately generate leads & sales.
Some examples of the activities included in SEO:
- Conducting keyword research to understand what people are searching for related to your products or services
- Optimizing on-page elements such as title tags, meta descriptions, and header tags
- Creating high-quality and informative content
- Building backlinks from other websites to your website
- Tracking and measuring results to understand what is working and what is not
By making sure that a website is optimized for search engines, it will be more likely to show up at the top of search results when people are searching for related keywords. This will help to bring more traffic to the website, which can lead to more leads and sales.
What Are The Different Types of SEO?
There are several different types of SEO, each with its own unique focus and approach. SEO is a broad and complex field that encompasses a wide range of activities, including on-page optimization, off-page optimization, technical optimization, local optimization, e-commerce optimization, voice optimization, international optimization, and programmatic optimization. Each type of SEO has its own unique focus and approach, and it’s important to understand the different types of SEO in order to develop an effective SEO strategy that can help to improve visibility in search engine results pages, drive more traffic to the website, and ultimately generate leads and sales.
Here are the most common types of SEO:
- Technical SEO is the process of optimizing a website’s technical infrastructure to improve its visibility in search engine results pages. It includes optimizing website architecture, site speed, mobile optimization, and more. Technical SEO lays the foundation for all other SEO efforts.
- On-page SEO is the process of optimizing the various elements of a website that are within the control of the website owner. This includes optimizing title tags, meta descriptions, header tags, and more. On-page SEO also includes optimizing website content, images, and videos to ensure they are relevant, high-quality, and informative.
- Off-page SEO is the process of building backlinks to a website from other websites. Backlinks signal to search engines that other sites consider the content on a website valuable, which can improve search engine rankings. Off-page SEO also includes social media optimization, which is the process of optimizing a website’s presence on social media platforms.
- Local SEO is the process of optimizing a website for local search results. This includes optimizing for local keywords, building local backlinks, and claiming and optimizing local business listings. Local SEO is particularly important for businesses that have a physical location or serve a specific geographic area.
- eCommerce SEO is the process of optimizing an e-commerce website for search engines. This includes optimizing product pages, category pages, and more. E-commerce SEO also includes optimizing for product-related keywords and building backlinks to product pages.
- Voice SEO is the process of optimizing a website for voice search. As more and more people are using voice assistants such as Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri to search the web, it’s important to optimize for long-tail keywords and natural language queries.
- International SEO is optimizing a website for multiple languages and countries. It includes optimizing for local & regional keywords, building local backlinks, and creating country-specific content at scale. Typically international SEO efforts are directed toward language groups like “English” and rarely as specific as “English – Ireland”.
- Programmatic SEO refers to the use of automation and technology to optimize a website for search engines. Programmatic SEO is the process of optimizing template systems and the data that flows into them. It sometimes involves using software and tools to automate various aspects of the SEO process, such as keyword research, content creation, and link building.
What Are The Steps To Building Good SEO?
Building good SEO involves a variety of steps that should be followed in order to optimize a website for search engines and improve visibility in search engine results pages. Good SEO requires a combination of on-page optimization, off-page optimization, local optimization, content creation and tracking and measuring the results. By following these steps, you can optimize your website for search engines and improve visibility in search engine results pages, drive more traffic to your website, and ultimately generate leads and sales. While building good SEO takes time and effort, it is a crucial aspect of any digital marketing strategy, and the results can be long-lasting and beneficial for your business in the long run.
Here are some of the key steps to building good SEO:
- Conduct thorough keyword research. The first step in any SEO campaign is to conduct thorough keyword research. This involves identifying the keywords and phrases that potential customers are using to search for products or services like yours. Once you have identified these keywords, you can optimize your website to rank for them.
- Optimize your website’s on-page elements. On-page optimization is the process of optimizing the various elements of your website, such as the title tags, meta descriptions, and header tags, to improve its visibility in search engine results pages. This includes ensuring that your website is mobile-friendly, has a fast loading speed, and is easy to navigate.
- Use structured data. Structured data is a way of marking up a webpage to provide search engines with information about its content. This includes information such as the page’s title, description, and images. By using structured data, you can give search engines more information about your website, which can improve visibility in search engine results pages.
- Create high-quality content. Creating high-quality, informative, and engaging content is essential for SEO. This includes blog posts, articles, infographics, and videos that are relevant to your target audience and that provide value. By consistently creating new content, you will be able to attract more visitors to your website, which will help to improve your search engine rankings.
- Optimize for local SEO. If your business has a physical location or serves a specific geographic area, it’s important to optimize for local SEO. This includes optimizing for local keywords, building local backlinks, and claiming and optimizing local business listings.
- Build high-quality backlinks. Backlinks are links that point to your website from other sites. They are an important factor in determining your search engine rankings, as they signal to search engines that other sites consider your content valuable. However, not all backlinks are created equal. To guarantee results, you should focus on building high-quality backlinks from authoritative and relevant websites.
- Track and measure your results. It’s important to track and measure your results in order to understand what is working and what isn’t. This includes monitoring your search engine rankings, website traffic, and conversion rates. By analyzing this data, you can identify areas for improvement and make adjustments to your SEO strategy as needed.
- Have patience. SEO is a waiting game based on Google’s closely guarded algorithm. While you may see your metrics change positively within two weeks of major renovations, it typically takes up to 8 months to fully realize the benefit of most changes.
- Keep a cadence. Consistency is key to keep Google attracted to your name & brand. If your plan is to release three blog posts per week, maintain that schedule. You can always prepare content ahead of time and set the release dates!
It’s important to remember that SEO is an ongoing process and it’s important to keep track of industry updates and make necessary adjustments to your strategy as search algorithms change. Additionally, it’s important to have a good website structure, use proper meta tags, and have a good website design and user experience.
Why Does My Business Need SEO?
Your business needs SEO because it helps to increase visibility in search engine results pages, drive more traffic to the website, and ultimately generate leads and sales. SEO is a critical component of any digital marketing strategy as it helps to reach more potential customers who are searching for products or services like yours. Without SEO, a website may not appear in search results, making it difficult for potential customers to find the business. Additionally, SEO helps to build credibility and trust with search engines, which can improve the overall online reputation of the business. In short, SEO is crucial for any business that wants to be found online and grow its customer base.

Brant Soler’s Technical SEO Results
When I think of results for SEO work, the most immediate result is visibility measured by Google Search Console. Google’s measurement of visibility is when a human puts eyes on your content in SERPs. Yes, there are bots on Google, but fortunately, How we Fought Spam on Google Search in 2022 outlines Google’s continued efforts to remove spam from SERPs and hints at ensuring only real traffic is counted in reported metrics.
Doubled SEO Visibility
Success in SEO comes in small and large packages. The ability to double someone’s visibility is literally doubling the number of opportunities for traffic at the top of the funnel. Here is an example from a small business dealing sports cards and offering live breaks of boxes. The traffic increased from 1K average daily views to 2K average daily views over three months:
Here is SEO success for a California rehab center, doubling visibility from 2K to 4K over three months:
Here is SEO success for a sports coach, doubling visibility from 15K to 30K over three months:
Sometimes, rarely, SEO professionals are gifted the ability to take part in a project where everything goes right, Google smiles down upon the project and you can taste the magic in the air. Here is significant SEO success from an enterprise SEO project where visibility was not only restored but doubled over previous record levels. And here is the best part, this project is ongoing, so expect an update to this later this year (2023)!

SEO Support Feedback
“Brant Soler was such a help when it came to SEO for my business site. I’ve hired people (and companies) in the past for SEO help and have made slight progress. Brant’s process was very different–he initially assessed everything about my site (and what’s “out there” about it on the internet) and brought up an important, glaring point about my site that NO one had ever mentioned (and has prevented some of the typical, already implemented SEO strategies from working). I originally thought just the Google Site Map was my problem (ha). While the issue was bigger than I thought, it gave me a lot of peace to finally understand what’s going (or not going) on. If you want someone who gives a lot of attention to detail & simultaneously takes on a very full picture for SEO, Brant’s the guy! Already have plans to do more work with him this fall. :)” – Erin Armstrong, ErinArmstrong.com

SEO pro tip:
“Understanding the term “Voice of Google” is a watershed moment for a business owner or content creator. “Becoming the Voice of Google where Google is choosing your words as the representation of the keywords you are targeting” is more accurate, but “Voice of Google” is easier to remember. There is a process to it, first you need to strip out every little technical error in your web presence to set the stage for greatness. The second thing you need to do is establish your link neighborhood by balancing out internal and external links in your content before starting your new content campaign around your target keywords. Sounds simple, right?” – Brant Soler, SEO Consultant

Although one of our company’s teams develops and builds WP sites (i.e. with developers with 10+ years of experience) and we have demonstrated solid SEO competence (through results for our clients), deep technical SEO is not something we have yet and we have found it is not easy to attain. Being able to reach out to Brant for a consult has been a huge help. He both knows his content and is personable and easy to work with. I left today’s call with a number of specific action steps to take — for issues I had not even been aware of. Brant, thanks again, for sharing your expertise and time today! I hired Brant for a Technical SEO Audit of my current Shopify website and he laid out an incredibly comprehensive game plan discussing everything from file naming taxonomies to enhancing organic image search, content creation schedules, on-page SEO refinements for headings, and capturing the voice of Google through FAQ & video transcripts. I will absolutely be working with Brant again as our team works hard on incorporating his genius plan of action.” – Kelly Mondora, Ilios Lighting
